RULES FOR THE CARE OF WOODEN PRODUCTS

Exquisite furniture and products made from natural wood species are a wonderful decoration for any home interior.

Nevertheless, despite the high quality impregnation or varnishing, natural wood is subject to the influence of various environmental factors. To make solid wood products last as long as possible, they need proper care and attention!

During operation and long-term storage, wooden products must be protected from shocks, scratches, water, aggressive substances, direct action of the sun, fire, as well as sudden changes in temperature and humidity of the surrounding air. Due to the observance of these conditions, wooden products will serve you for more than one year.

The microclimate in the room for wooden products requires a room temperature of 18-24C, otherwise there is a high probability of uneven drying of wood and deformation

The mode of relative humidity in the range of 40-65% is also important.

For natural wood, moisture and immense dryness are equally harmful, because under their influence, all the qualities of the tree change not for the better.
If the humidity is too high, the impregnation will tarnish on wooden furniture and unpleasant stains may appear. On the contrary, with excessive dryness in the room, such furniture can crack over time.
The distance from wooden furniture to any external heat source (radiators, household heaters, etc.) must be at least 1 meter. The proximity of joinery structures to highly heated heating devices, gas stoves, fireplaces increases the risk of wood products drying out and the formation of numerous cracks.

When using natural wood products, changes in temperature or humidity indicators at a rate not exceeding 5% per hour are permissible.
Do not place wooden products near damp walls and in unheated rooms!
In very dry weather, the use of a humidifier is recommended. The role of humidifiers can be performed not only by specialized devices, but also by various shade-loving plants (for example, "crying" vines), as well as fountains installed near such products.
Also, do not place wooden furniture in areas of the room that are directly exposed to ultraviolet radiation.

For products made of natural wood, excessive moisture and excessively dry air pose the same danger. Deviations from the optimum temperature and humidity values lead to deformational changes in the material and the formation of cracks.
Always ventilate the room where the wooden products are located!

Avoid impacts
Protect solid wood furniture from various types of mechanical impact: strong impacts, careless movements, collisions, etc. As a result of such actions, the table, chest of drawers or chair can be severely damaged - a dent, chip, scratch or other defect mark will remain on the wood. Arrange wooden furniture so that it does not interfere with movement around the room.

Furniture loosening prevention
Where possible, try at least once a year to tighten the nodes of metal furniture fasteners - special screws, ordinary screws, etc. This will significantly reduce the risk of loosening of individual elements of the furniture structure.
Also, do not allow water to enter the joints or gaps between the furniture components, otherwise the furniture may come unstuck. For example, in excessively damp rooms, it is better to paste over the back walls of cabinets with special waxed paper that absorbs moisture.

Rules of daily care
Wooden products with a varnished wooden surface must be wiped at least two or three times a week with a dry, soft and clean rag or cloth (cloth, velvet, flannel, etc.). Do not use a damp cloth to wipe polished furniture models and wipe the wood exclusively with water or soapy water, as moisture "removes" the natural shine of the wood and forms stains. If you still need to wipe the lacquered furniture, then use the essence of ammonia (1 tsp alcohol / 6 tsp water). Wood polishing is well renewed with a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice (or wine vinegar) in a 1: 2 ratio. Spray the mixture over the surface with a spray bottle and rub gently with flannel or velvet.
One of the main principles of caring for furniture made of wood is to minimize the time of exposure to harmful factors. It is necessary to constantly monitor it, prevent moisture from getting on it, and if something is spilled, then immediately remove everything, and not leave it for later.

Means for the care of furniture
When purchasing a special product for the care of wooden furniture in the store, be sure to specify for which coatings it is intended. Do not use chemicals containing ammonia, any solvents, abrasive substances or other impurities harmful to wood, including washing powder or laundry soap.
The most popular means for the care of solid wood furniture are a variety of creams, pigmented synthetic polishes, special oils (in frequency, linseed), as well as wax pastes and aerosols. In any case, do not apply polish too often, but only occasionally as the wood wears down and after preliminary cleaning of the wood surface.
Try not to use water-based products - they can cause multiple thin meshes on the furniture. It is also not recommended to wipe wooden structures with silicone pastes, as they cause the wooden base to age quickly. One more rule - the most popular nowadays synthetic polishes are suitable only for lacquered furniture.

How to remove some defects on solid wood products
It is best to remove stains on furniture with a special store-bought product for removing such stains. However, avoid direct contact with such a substance on wooden furniture - it can destroy the surface varnished layer. To remove the stain, first apply a small amount of reagent to the flannel fabric, then gently dab the cloth over the affected area. Stains from lacquered furniture models are also removed with used large-leaf tea leaves, which must be wrapped in a bag (tea bags are not suitable for this purpose).
Sometimes, over time, wooden furniture begins to tarnish. To restore it to its original exquisite shine and natural gloss, wipe it with any product that contains wax. Besides, wax perfectly protects any furniture from dirt. A solution of wine vinegar and olive oil will also give wood furniture a shine. After wiping, wipe the wood surface dry with a soft cloth.

Furniture scratches are leveled with a special grout (sold in stores). Also, to remove chips, you can use ordinary shoe cream of the desired color or crushed children's crayons (analogous to colored pencil leads), which are used to process the defective place, then they are polished on top with furniture shine. But scratches on oak furniture can be removed well with iodine.

If fine dust and holes appear on the surface of the furniture, it means that pests have settled there. They can be removed with the power of special chemicals. For the prevention of grinders, furniture can be treated with a solution of turpentine (100 hours), wax (5 hours), creolin (3 hours) and paraffin (5 hours). Also, to prevent bugs, you can make a solution of sodium fluoride (250 g / 10 liters of water). Stains from wet dishes are removed with a slice of ordinary walnut. When the nut juice dries up, wipe the surface of the furniture with a cloth. Soaked whitish stains can be removed with wheat flour, followed by polishing with vegetable oil.
Suddenly a trace of a hot object or dishes formed on the furniture, then treat it with a solution of vegetable oil and alcohol (1: 1), using a woolen cloth for wiping. If this does not help, then you can grease the flaw with Vaseline, and after 7-8 hours, polish the stain with a cloth. Mold stains can be removed by dampening a cloth rag with gasoline. Wax spots are carefully removed with a heated knife blade. Then the traces of wax must be wiped off with a cloth soaked in gasoline.

How to care for a wooden cutting board:
• wash it with warm water immediately after use and dry thoroughly;
• put the board on a horizontal surface after washing so that it does not deform. If this still happens, place a damp cloth on the board, and then go over it with an iron - repeat the action until the board is level;
• do not soak the board in order to get rid of strong stains - just sprinkle it salt and baking soda, and then rub with half a lemon.
• Oil the board with vaseline oil or edible beeswax. Apply grease to a dry surface, let it sit for a few hours, and then wipe off any excess. This should be done at least once a year, or better - once a month. We do not recommend that you oil the cutting board with sunflower or vegetable oil - this can give it an unpleasant smell, which will be transmitted to the products that you cut on it;

Folk recipes for the care of certain types of wood
Furniture made of oak or beech can be wiped with a dry cloth or napkin to remove dust, and then - rub with a slightly damp, well-wrung out piece of leather and finally polish with a woolen cloth. To restore the shine of a beech or oak surface, it is recommended to wipe it with the essence of warm beer and linseed oil. Greasy stains from the oak surface can be removed with a heated mixture of warm beer, 1 tbsp. tablespoons of powdered sugar and 20-30 g of wax, followed by polishing with wool.
Unfortunately, these requirements are not met, but the result is appropriate: the products creak, deform, dry out, and gaps appear in them.
Take care of the products correctly made of natural wood and they will serve for many years, keeping their original appearance!
